CHRISTOPHER CLARINO, DMA

N E W S

May 2026: Artist in Residence, UC Santa Cruz

Chris will serve as Artist in Residence at the 2026 April in Santa Cruz Festival of Creative Music, presenting a solo program focused on new and ongoing collaborations with the UC Santa Cruz musical community. The concert will feature world premieres by three UCSC composers - Nilufar Habibian, Shanna Sordahl, and Marc Perez - each written specifically for the occasion and developed in close dialogue during the residency. The program will also include a performance of VEDITZ by the late composer and former UCSC professor Larry Polansky, who created the work for Chris and whose music remains an important influence. Additional repertoire will further reflect the festival’s commitment to experimentation and creative exchange. Through this residency, Chris will celebrate new artistic voices, honor a significant legacy, and bring audiences an engaging evening of forward-looking music.

June 2026 - Dorland Mountain Arts Residency

Chris has been awarded a residency at Dorland Mountain Arts in the Temecula Valley. During the residency, he will explore the region’s natural soundscape by creating field recordings and performing and recording works by Michael Pisaro-Liu. The residency provides a space for deep listening and creative reflection, allowing Chris to investigate the continuum between environmental and musical sound and to document a daily practice of attentive listening in text, image, and sound.

"I have listened to your performance of as though

several times now and find it stunning. Accurate, expressive, wonderful sounds from each instrument..."

Dr. Thomas DeLio

“I really enjoyed your performance very much... It's very beautiful.”

Thomas Meadowcroft

“Clarino's synchronization was so crisp and imaginative that it upheld an illusion that he was generating the sounds through some invisible advanced cousin of the theremin.”
